After endless consideration and debate on what part of England I should base my team on, I finally came up with the conclusion of basing my team on the country Hertfordshire in Southern England. I decided to pick a part in England which isn’t renowned for it’s football and doesn’t have a world wide known professional club (i.e – Liverpool, Manchester United) This is because it will allow me to elaborate on aspects that aren’t so mainstream and generic (liverbird logo)

The latest estimate of the usual resident population of Hertfordshire is; 1,154,800 (one million, one hundred fifty-four thousand eight hundred) as at 30th June 2014. The population of England is estimated at 54,316,600 (fifty four million, three hundred and sixteen thousand, six hundred). These numbers are briefly my considered target audience, as people all over England could be supportive of the football club ‘Hertfordshire’ due to family relations, place of birth and so on.

The more likely secure target audience would be the whole of Hertfordshire which would be 1,154,800 people, within this number of people it can then be broken down more so into gender and age. Female’s tend to be less involved within football throughout England, this has been the case for many years, but is slowly increasing. Statistics show that the lowest amount of female supporters/fans towards a club in England is Fulham FC, in which out of one hundred percent, studies show; 12% of Fulham’s fans are made of females and the left over 88% are males. The club in England with the most female supporters/fans is Wigan Athletic in which the fan base is made of 21% female and 79% males. (2014 survey)

I had a look at global demographics revolved around age rage, and what percentage of people watch the premier league (which is the league I think my team would be included in). I found that 44% of 16-24 year olds watch football either online or on the TV that is quite a big figure when including the english population. I found out that an even higher figure was introduced when looking at 35-44 year olds which was 48% of this age range watch football online or on TV. The ages between 25-34 have the most appeal towards football with a massive 55% figure of people watching football throughout the UK. After the age ranges mention above, the statistics decrease showing that up to the ages of 16-44 years olds is the most popular age range who involve themselves with the game, this doesn’t necessarily mean they are fans although it’s very likely they have favoritism to a football team. With this knowledge I will be targeting the ages of 16-34 year olds within Hertfordshire.

Since I have chosen Hertfordshire as my team, this means I need to revolve my football home and away kit and my logo round the country Hertfordshire. I will be looking at the significant symbols which represent Hertfordshire and try and manipulate these certain themes into my designs.

Hertfordshire’s flag was registered on 19th November 2008. The flag is a banner of arms of the County Council. As you can see in the above Flag there are white wavy blue and white lines, this represents the many rivers flowing through the country of Hertfordshire. The shield (inescutcheon) bearing a hart (deer) is taken from the arms of the Borough of Hertford the county town. This is a punning reference to the name of the town and shire.

As you can see within the picture above and below, the Deers are a very significant figure for the country Hertfordshire.

Above is a Mural Crown which can be seen in a couple of Logo’s concerning Hertfordshire. The definition of this can be can be known a golden crown formed with indentations to resemble a battlement, bestowed by the ancient Romans on the soldiers who first mounted the wall of a besieged place and there lodged a standard.’ It can also be seen as a head piece representing walls or towers which is a spirit of protection.

The Stag represents:

  • Vitality – (the state of being strong and active; energy./ The power giving continuance of life, present in all living things.)
  • Colour – (Bright Orange)
  • Confidence – (the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust./the state of feeling certain about the truth of something.)
  • Colour – (Yellow/Green) (Chartreuse)
  • Pride – (a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired.)
  • Colour – (Deep Orange/Tomato red)

This animal is a sign of spiritual or cross-dimensional journeying. It can give protection in times of transition or beginning. The Stag, Hart or Buck is a vibrant Yang energy with a strong intuitive side. The Stag can be a sign of leadership, wisdom, fatherhood or a masculine influence in your life.

Conversely, the Stag can signify escapism from an unpleasant reality, castles in the sky, arrogance or unrealistic goals. It can warn of illusions or deception. The Stag can also portend a difficult or solitary journey; or, a spiritual awakening. This animal spirit asks you to trust your intuition and avoid overthinking. A path that is hazy will soon become clear.
